This workshop is intended to bring hospice nurses together in a focused setting where they can discuss hospice-specific clinical topics from four qualified experts. Lunch and breaks will be provided. Nursing Practice in the Hospice Setting – Linda Burhans, RN, PhD, Senior Regulatory Consultant, North Carolina Board of Nursing

This presentation will discuss the Scope of Nursing Practice including Competency Requirements; The Licensed Nurse’s role and Responsibility in assigning to RNs/LPNs and/or delegating to UAP; It will list the North Carolina Board of Nursing criteria used for delegation and supervision and describe the relationship between nursing regulation and documentation.

What Do I Need to Know About Anti-Psychotics & Medication Appropriateness? – Ellen Fulp, PharmD, BCGP, AvaCare
This presentation will review the latest evidence based, best practice for considering medication appropriateness when selecting drug therapy for managing pain and other symptoms in the hospice patient.  This presentation will focus on explaining what nurses should know as it relates to the use of anti-psychotics in the care of hospice patients. 

The Volunteer’s Role on the Hospice Team – Lori Mayhue-Brown, MPH, CHES, Volunteer Services Team Leader, Transitions LifeCare
The Hospice Volunteer Program is a vital part of any hospice program. This presentation will help nurses understand the volunteer role, what volunteers can do to help patients and families; how to engage volunteers with patients and families and integrate the volunteer into the Interdisciplinary Group. 

The Nurse & QAPI – Jane Garrett, RN, BSN, MHSA, Vice President of Quality Initiatives & State Liaison, AHHC of NC/SCHCHA
Utilizing a robust quality assessment and performance improvement (QAPI) program provides an opportunity and structure for strengthening patient outcomes. This presentation will provide a review of the requirements of the QAPI that hospices must meet to maintain Medicare certification. There will be a focus on the role and responsibilities of the nurse in the QAPI program
