Tackling Ethical Dilemmas at End-of-Life
Join us for "Tackling Ethical Dilemmas at End-of-Life: An Intensive for the Hospice & Palliative Care Team." Hospice and Palliative Care team members face a number of ethical challenges in their day to day care of patients, families and clients. Everything from whether a patient is safe in the home, to who is able to make care decisions, to having team members with a different understanding of boundaries – end-of-life care is difficult! This Ethics Intensive will use the ethical principles to create a framework for identifying and addressing ethical dilemmas, boundary issues and moral distress with a focus on how COVID-19 has impacted us all. The importance of ethics to patient care, organizational structure and staff satisfaction will be explored during this interactive session. Participant-submitted case examples will be utilized throughout the session to be sure that topics of most concern are discussed.

This activity is eligible for 4.0 nurse contact hours.
The Association for Home & Hospice Care of North Carolina is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the North Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Check with your state’s Social Work Licensure Board to verify eligibility for Social Worker Continuing Education credit.

Social Worker continuing education requirements set forth through regulation are intentionally designed to allow social workers some latitude and flexibility in selecting course activity relevant to their area of interest and expertise. Please reference Chapter 63, Section .0401 of the NC Administrative Code for guidance on what constitutes appropriate and acceptable continuing education activities.

Presenter:
Risa Hanau, LCSW, Clinical & Community Educator, AuthoraCare Collective
Risa has worked with AuthoraCare Collective since 2004 and has served in many roles, currently she is the Clinical and Community Educator. She has worked in the hospice field since 1993 and started her career as a hospital social worker at Moses Cone Hospital. Risa is a seasoned presenter and teacher in the area of end-of-life and ethics. She is a member of the Cone Health Ethics Committee. By training, Risa is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania.
Cancellation and Substitution Policy:
Fees will be refunded, or invoices will be adjusted, only if written notice of cancellation is received by AHHC one week prior to the event. In the event of cancellation, AHHC will retain, or charge, 50% of the initial registration fee, per registrant, to cover administrative overhead. Once written cancellation is received, an AHHC staff member will review for approval. If your cancellation is approved, we will email back a signed and dated copy of the cancellation that your agency should retain on file in case of questions.
