NEW and Changed ICD-10 Codes

This 90 minute webinar will provide an overview of the new and revised codes most likely to be used by home health and hospice agencies for 2018. There are 360 new codes, 142 deleted codes and 226 revised codes that were released June 13, 2017.

Topics of special interest to home health and hospice agencies include:

  • New codes for enterocolitis due to clostridium difficile
  • Malignant mast neoplasm
  • New codes for Type 2 Diabetes with ketoacidosis
  • Expansion of codes in behavioral health related to use and abuse of psychoactive substances
  • New codes in nervous system
  • Changes in codes related to blindness and low vision
  • A plethora of new and changed codes in the circulatory system related to myocardial infarction, secondary pulmonary hypertension, and significant expansion in the heart failure codes including a new code for end state heart failure and more
  • A new revised code for pneumonia due to other aerobic Gram-negative bacteria
  • 20 new digestive system codes related to intestinal obstruction
  • 72 new codes related to non-pressure ulcer involving muscle and bone without the presence of necrosis
  • Musculoskeletal options for coding dermatomyositis and spinal stenosis with & without neurogenic claudication
  • Genitourniary systems included new codes for post-infective and post-procedural urethral strictures and unspecified lump in the breast
  • 12 new and 176 revised codes for a variety of injuries, poisonings and other consequences of external causes

In addition to a description of the code changes, the program will define next steps to prepare for implementation of these changes on 10/1/2017 and a discussion on the importance of collecting the documentation from the medical recordor through conversation with the physician to support assigning ICD-10-CM codes at the highest level of specificity. As the diagnosis codes become more and more detailed, it is important for both the home care agencies and the physicians who are overseeing the care plans for home health and hospice patients to capture that specificity to support the best coverage and payment for patients served.
